Story of an Hour

I believe that the larger meaning in "The Story of an Hour," is perhaps the cruel irony of life. Due to the belief that a women lost her husband, one she did not even "love" most of the time, she suffers a heart attack and dies. However, the husband never died, and comes home to find his wife dead. The story is cruel as both hearts are broken in it. The tragedy of death that felt so real to her was false, but because she felt it so deeply, her husband is the one who will have to spend the rest of his days alone.
